چکیده

This paper presents a direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDFS) with a 16-bit accumulator, a fourth-order phase domain single-stage interpolator, and a 300-MS/s 12-bit current-steering DAC based on the Q2 Random Walk switching scheme. The interpolator is used to reduce the phase truncation error and the ROM size. The implemented fourth-order single-stage noise shaper reduces the effective phase bits by four and reduces the ROM size by 16 times. The DDFS prototype is fabricated in a 0.35m CMOS technology with active area of 1.11 mm including a 12-bit DAC. The measured DDFS spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) is greater than 78 dB using a reduced ROM with 8-bit phase, 12-bit amplitude resolution and a size of 0.09 mm. The total power consumption of the DDFS is 200 mW with a 3.3-V power supply.

Design and Simulation of a Modified 32-bit ROM-based Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer on FPGA

This paper presents a modified 32-bit ROM-based Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer (DDFS). Maximum output frequency of the DDFS is limited by the structure of the accumulator used in the DDFS architecture. The hierarchical pipeline accumulator (HPA) presented in this paper has less propagation delay time rather than the conventional structures. Therefore, it results in both higher maximum ope...

A 12 GHz 1.9 W Direct Digital Synthesizer MMIC Implemented in 0.18 m SiGe BiCMOS Technology

This paper presents a 12 GHz direct digital synthesizer (DDS) MMIC with 9-bit phase and 8-bit amplitude resolution implemented in a 0.18 m SiGe BiCMOS technology. Composed of a 9-bit pipeline accumulator and an 8-bit sine-weighted current-steering DAC, the DDS is capable of synthesizing sinusoidal waveforms up to 5.93 GHz. The maximum clock frequency of the DDS MMIC is measured as 11.9 GHz at t...

Non-linear D/a Converters for Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizers

By Zhihe Zhou, Ph.D. Washington State University August 2006 Chair: George S. La Rue We investigated the design and implementation of non-linear D/A converters (DAC) for a direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDFS), which consists of a phase accumulator, a phase-to-sine look-up table and a DAC. Using a non-linear DAC can significantly reduce the look-up table size, hence, reducing the power di...
